What you need to know about skin care during pregnancy What you need to know about skin care during pregnancy

Pregnancy is a state where women face so many changes requiring care and precautions to be healthy and allow normal development of the baby. The doctor will give you a long list of do’s and don’ts to follow for the next few months, but most likely, it will be about food, drinks, physical activities, and surroundings. Beauty products haven’t been considered as important, until recent years.

Nowadays, these are being taken into consideration because the composition of some chemicals have tested harmful for the baby and  for you. For your safety, you should avoid products containing any of the following ingredients. Look at them closely and find a substitute.

Ingredients to avoid during pregnancy

This list is created to provide a helpful guide to use when you are looking for beauty products; that way your routines and beauty care won’t be affected during this wonderful time of your life.

  1. Retinoids: these are present in the acne and anti-aging products, under the following names: retinyl palmitate, retinoic acid, isotretinoin, adapalene, retinaldehyde, tazarotene, and tretinoin. Doctors recommend not to get pregnant under the use of those products, or if you are planning to. However, if you got pregnant cut the application immediately.
  1. Phthalates: this is used in products like perfumes and nail polish to increase the effect of other chemicals in their formulas. Products with phthalates are associated with health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and bad fetal development. So next time look for products phthalates-free when you want a new perfume or nail polish.
  1. Formaldehyde: speaking about nail polish, this one can be found in many different brands. Others, like hair straightening treatments and eyelashes glue, also have this in their formulas. You will find the formaldehyde under many labels like quaternium-15, dimethyl-dimethyl (DMDM), 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol (bromopol), and others. Buy only formaldehyde-free products for your house.
  1. Ammonia: are you in love with dying your hair? Well, many dye hairs have this ingredient as part of their formulas, that is the reason behind the success of many ammonia-free alternatives. Inclusive, you can find many that are using natural ingredients on their components to bring better protection for the hair.
  1. Dihydroxyacetone: also known as DHA, can be found in spray self-tanners, this one reacts on your skin making it look like a recent tan without getting under the sun. However, the problem is if you inhale the particles; for that reason, forget about the spray tan during the pregnancy.

Healthy skin begins with good cleansing habits..

Cleansing your skin sounds simple and it should be, but using the wrong cleanser can start many skin problems such as: sensitivity, excessive dryness, irritation, redness and even breakouts.

The skin protective layer is meant to guard the skin from external aggresors but certain chemicals such as sodium lauryl sulfate found in many cleansers can strip the skin of natural essential lipids leaving the skin vulnerable to irritation and dryness.

Here are some tips for a regular cleansing routine:

?Select a mild cleanser, avoid harsh surfactants such as sodium lauryl sulfate

?Cleanse your skin 2 times a day

If suffering from acne, avoid over cleansing since it will actually cause the skin to produce more oil to counteract the dryness caused by the Cleanser. Dryness and irritation can exacerbate breakouts.

?If using an exfoliating cleanser containing acids such as glycolic or salicylic make sure you hydrate the skin properly that way you supply the skin with fundamental components.

?Some devices such as clarasonic or foreo contain ultrasonic technology to help provide a deeper cleansing, they are great; but remember, more is not always better. Your skin will tell you how often to use them.

If using them everyday starts to give you skin problems, reduce the frequency of use.

?And my favorite tip : ALWAYS GO TO BED WITH A CLEAN FACE .

Most people will agree that the eye area is very vulnerable to aging.

Lines and wrinkles, dark circles, puffiness, eye bags…. common words in the beauty industry since the eyes most of the time become the first focus of attention when we realize that the clock is only running forward.

After a night of cocktails and fun , a stressful day, poor nutrition or lack of sleep.. the eyes ruthlessly reveal the  world your secret with no mercy.

The skin’s structure around the eye area compared to other areas of the face is more delicate. It’s density is thinner and contains fewer sweat and sebaceous glands.  The blood and lymph functionally is more limited; therefore, affecting micro-circulation and levels of oxygenation and nourishment to the area. Over the years these factors give place to expression lines and loss of tone and elasticity  forming the typical “eye bags”, dark circles and “crows feet.”

If we consider hydration only, it is fair to say that a regular moisturizer should do the trick. Many moisturizers contain hydrating and some even anti-aging ingredients that can benefit the skin around the eyes as well.

However, a well-formulated eye cream is made to specifically target and treat the concerns around the eye area. Ingredients such as: chamomile, peptides, ecsin, ginkgo biloba, vitamin C, helichrysum  among many others, are common ingredients in eye cream formulations.

I personally prefer to use a separate eye cream. As a professional my philosophy is to be more target specific considering of course the person’s individual concern. Once identified, selecting a skincare product with a high percentage of active ingredients to treat it will certainly provide the best result.

THINGS TO KNOW:

*It is best to apply eye cream morning and evening as part of your regular skincare routine.

*Most eye creams are suitable to use on the lips since the lips are also very delicate.

*Use sunglasses regularly to prevent sun damage and reduce squinting which can exacerbate expression lines.

Who doesn’t want brighter, glowing skin instantly!!! Bye-Bye Dull Skin..

Microdermabrasion is definitely one of those -must have- treatments when you want a quick, non-invasive way to change the way your skin looks and feels.  It is considered a mechanical superficial peel with many short and long-term benefits!! There are different types of microdermabrasion:

  • Crystal: Performed with a machine that has two tubes connected at the end by a head piece. One has a vacuum and the other delivers finely milled crystals. The vacuum pulls up the skin while aluminum oxide crystals or sodium bicarbonate cause a controlled abrasion to the skin, removing dead skin cells from the surface.
  • Diamond Tip: Utilizes micro-abrasion wands with diamond tips
  • Dermal-Infusion: It alternates diamond microdermabrasion with the infusion of specific serums determined according to the skin condition

By removing the old skin cells, new cells are exposed giving the skin a younger and brighter look.  Isn’t that Awesome!!! Another great plus is that  there is immediate stimulation to the formation of new collagen. Collagen is the magic word…  New collagen means Plump, Dewy, Healthy SKIN!! Microdermabrasion can help improve a variety of skin issues and conditions, including:

* Scars * Non-inflammatory Acne *Sun damage * Dark spots * Uneven skin tone * Dull skin* Lines & Wrinkles…

On its own microdermabrasion is a fabulous treatment, however; when combined with other modalities and active skin care ingredients, it is an incredible tool to achieve more dramatic and faster results.

It is not recommended for inflammatory conditions or hyper- sensitive skin.

IF YOU WANT NEW SKIN THE SAME DAY, CONSIDER THIS FANTASTIC TREATMENT OPTION!!!
